Seeds packets at library

Borrow, grow, return

Visit our Scotland-Oakland Branch to browse our Seed Library. Choose from over 80 varieties of seeds, grow them in your garden, then return your saved seeds to the library in the fall.

You may borrow up to three (3) seed types at one time.

Quick facts

  1. The Seed Library is located in our Scotland-Oakland Branch.
  2. Seeds are available while supplies last. We cannot guarantee stock or supply.
  3. At the end of the growing season, save your seeds and donate them back to the library. This creates an ongoing supply loop to fuel the seed library!
  4. Borrow a set of basic gardening tools to get started:
    • Ergonomic gardening hand tools
    • Children's gardening hand tools

How to borrow

Seeds are available on a first come, first-served basis while supplies last. You may borrow up to 3 seed types at one time. Contact the Seed Librarian by email or by phone to learn about all available seeds. Our seed collection may be browsed in-person at the Scotland-Oakland Branch (don't forget your mask!).

  1. Complete the Seed Library request form here or fill out a paper copy at your local library branch.
  2. Use the comments section on the form to let us know what type of seeds you're looking for. You can be specific or more general (e.g. "daisies" or "perennial seeds").
  3. Wait to be notified: when your seeds are ready for pickup, library staff at your pickup location will let you know.

Seeds donations always welcome

We need your help to "grow" our inventory! Donations are being accepted now. Here's how you can help:

  • Complete our seed library donation form, then attach the form to an envelope filled with the saved seeds.
  • Drop your donation at any of our branches.
